On Sunday afternoon I went with a group of students to Sandton for our night photography fieldtrip. I was enthralled by the low light photo opportinuties the buildings yielded. So much so, that I went back there the following day to see if I could improve on the previous day's shots.
Today, I will be sharing a couple of very plain and simple compositions that was taken on Sunday afternoon, but unlike my other posts, I will not elaborate on any particular techniques, but rather leave you with a question.
The question is: "How do you prefer to see the world; in Colour or Black & White".

Black and white images are all about contrast and tones. This image was "enhanced" in Photoshop, and using the Nik Silver Effex plugin. To me, this image is far more powerful than the colour version.
I prefer the colour between these. What's your take?
.

The first photo is definitely more striking in black and white, in color it looks like just another building. The second photo on the contrary, I like the color one more, the stripe of blue color gives the photo live whereas the black and white one seems dull. But that’s just my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI Agree Nilene, I also like the first shot in b&w and the second is better in colour. I think certain images works better in colour and others work better in b&w; even though I am a predominantly MONO fan!~
ReplyDeletehmmm...you know me by now, im a black and white fan !!!! well done
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nilene.
ReplyDeleteCertain images are just better in colour....
+1 vote for colour!
ReplyDeleteHi Danie!
ReplyDeleteNice shots, but not typical subjects for b&w. I actually prefer the second one, it has nicer contrast and a good abstract feel to it.
I think when applied to the right subjects b&w can really bring out the "soul" of a photograph. Of course people are an obvious choice, but I have seen landscapes and abstracts handled very well in b&w.
I also think that doing b&w digitally doesn't quite give the same feel as real b&w film, though sometimes people manipulate their digital to get fairly close. Maybe it's just the gritty feel or high contrast or something.
Anyway, thanks for the great blog, I always look forward to reading your highly informative posts!
